Converting a Tiff File to a Word Document

I scanned a document using an HP Scanjet 6200C - the only options I got for
saving the file were tiff, jpeg and bmp. I am using Office 2000 and need to
know if there is a way to convert a Tiff file to a Word Document - I have
looked every where and have been completely unable to find any way to do
this.

You will need an OCR program, such as Omnipage or similar. Scanners "see"
everything as a picture and so save it that way. The OCR program will attempt
to interpret the scanned letters into document text.

To add to what JLH has said, your scanner very likely came with a "lite"
version of some OCR software--TextBridge, OmniPage, or I.R.I.S.

Thanks very much - I had not thought of this (though I should have). I
really appreciate the help.
