Converting a Visio File to PowerPoint

D

Dale

Hi:
Is there a way to Save or Convert a drawing made in Visio (a .vsd file)
into a PowerPoint file ( a .ppt file) so that it is editable by PowerPoint,
not just a picture or bitmap ? If so, please advise me on what steps to
take to make this conversion.

Or...
is there a way to take the Visio file and convert itr directly to a
PowerPoint file
so that it is editable by PowerPoint ?

Thank you

From within PowerPoint, you can choose Insert: Object (in 2007, click the
Insert tab and choose Object). Then, choose From File and browse to select
the existing Visio file.

Once it's in PowerPoint, double-clicking the image will activate it so you
can edit it within PowerPoint using Visio tools.

Good luck.

Hi:
Thank you for your reply.
I do not want to edit with Viso from within PowerPoint.
I have a Visio document that I nned to send to someone who
doesn't have Visio...only PowerPoint, and they need to be able
to edit/change the document. Any ideas ?

Thanx !

Absolutely. You'll need to embed the Visio drawing into PowerPoint.

In Visio, choose Edit: Copy Drawing.

Then, go to PowerPoint and choose "Paste." They won't be able to edit the
drawing, but they will be able to see it.

Hi:

I think that you are still missing my point.
What I would like to be able to do is...
be able to edit the Visio diagram in PowerPoint...as PowerPoint document.
In other words, I want to be able to click on any object in the picture
and be able to edit it in PowerPoint.
In other words, convert the Visio document to an editable PowerPoint document.
Any ideas ?

Thanx

See...

That's a flaw in Microsoft's program, then.
You should be able to edit the pictures between programs,
just like you can edit/move text from one word processor to
another, via using an RTF file.

This is no good.

Thanx

As far as I know, what you are asking for can't be done. A user is required
to have Visio in order to edit a Visio document, whether from PowerPoint or
any other MS program.

I think what you need to do is use Paste Special to put the Visio diagram on
your slide as something that can be then ungrouped. (I use WMF... Someone
else will pop in if there is another file format you might want to use.)
Then, once you have pasted the graphic in, ungroup it a number of times and
you should be able to edit the pieces as you need to.
