There are a couple of ways to do this without additional software, but they
both start with selecting and copying. Then:
1. Paste into Paint (or another photo editor) and save as a JPEG.
2. In Word, Edit | Paste Special as Picture. Then follow the instructions at
http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm to extract it as a JPEG
(or possibly GIF--you have no choice).
Another option, of course, if you have a scanner, would be to print it out,
scan it in, and save as a JPEG.
The absolutely easiest way, however, is to use SnagIt (
www.techsmith.com).
With SnagIt, you can capture any portion of a document and save it in any of
quite a number of file formats. To obtain print quality, you can capture the
image by "printing" to the SnagIt printer, then saving as a JPEG. I can
attest that the "printer" output can vary dramatically from what you see on
the screen (I use this method to capture MapPoint maps since MapPoint's
export capabilities are minimal). If you want to explore this option,
TechSmith offers a free trial of SnagIt; I think you'll find it so stunning
that you'll gladly pay the very reasonable price.
