Converting between mpx and mpd

Anyone know of any tools that will convert mpx files to mpd files and back
(other than MS-P that is). I have a visual planning tool that exports in mpx
and a webbase Project Management Info System that is mpd based. It would be
expensive to buy everyone a copy of MS-P just to be a peice of middleware.

The only solution is a custom program. Interpreting the .mpx is easy, but
building the .mpd file is not. If it's not perfectly correct, the data is
unreadable or worse still cause a corruption.

using Project to do the conversion will be much cheaper. I think from memory
you need Project 2000 as 2002 doesn't save to .mpx?

Hello Catfish Hunter
Not for Viewing. I use a project Management information system that lets
everyone on the project see the status, finacial, etc. It will only sync with
mpd files (something to do with the data layer). I want to try and keep most
people away from MSP because they prove dangerous to the plans and can't read
them anyway.

Thanks Anyway

Hi Rod,
There is a Sql issue with MSP2000 that stops me using it. Looks like I'm
going to have to use MSP (just want to keep none project people away from it
because they just miss use it)

Thanks Simon

Hi,

No need for everyone to use have Project. Just have files saved in a network
folder and have someone convert them once a week.

Note that mpx file formats only pass some project data, not all. As such
they only provide approximate data. xml files have replaced mpx and you
should push your planning tool developers to export in xml, not mpx. The xml
file can then be consumed in all sorts of tools.
