Converting code from Excel 97 to 2003

Hello, this is related to my other question about Excel 97 macros crashing on XP systems

In a system of various related Excel 97 workbooks, consisting of a main menu workbook linked to others that create orders, hold data...etc. Can I convert these to 2003 easily ? I thought I could copy code from a Windows 98/Excel 97 workbook to a word doc, then transfer to a PC with Windows XP/Excel 2003, create a new workbook and copy/paste the code in

Thanks for your time

Actually, the fileformat for xl97 through xl2003 is the same.

You should be able to just open the workbook in xl2003 and run the code.

But a safer bet is to verify it in xl2003 (there may be some minor differences,
but not enough to cause crashes).

I'm not sure what's causing xl to crash, but that sounds pretty unusual.

One thing that isn't nice to think about...
Each version of excel seems to react to workbook corruption differently.
Usually xl2002+ can handle things better than earlier versions--but not always
(or so I've read).

I think I'd copy the code into a test workbook in xl2003 (with just enough test
data to run the code). If it still blew up, try to find the offending line and
post back.

If it didn't, ..... maybe it's time to recreate the original workbook.

This may have been a stroke of luck, though. If the workbook ever got so
corrupted that you couldn't open it anywhere, it could be worse.

You may want to see if opening the offending workbook in openoffice helps. It
has a pretty good reputation for opening stuff xl couldn't:
