Converting files into pdf

Hi.
I recently downloaded an application form in word, filled it out, and
then tried to convert it into a pdf (for pc users) without success.
What I have tried doing is, go into "Files", then "Print" and there
save it as a pdf. Doesn't work. The worrying thing is that I also have
problems converting any of my own files into pdfs, not only downloaded
ones.

Any suggestions??

Can you Print to PDF in other applications? say, try doing it from
Safari or Firefox

"Doesn't work" is a little vague--in File | Print, what do you click on,
what exactly do you do, and what happens?

It is completely possible to send a .doc file from the Mac to PC users.
