converting files to Publisher 2007

I have recently converted to Publisher 2007 from Publisher 2000. Before I
opened my files by going into My Documents and double clicking the file I
wanted. Now it ask what program I want to use to open the file. BUT Publisher
2007 is not in the list.

Publisher 2000 was still in the list so I completely deleted it from my
programs. 2007 still isn't on the list of programs.

I can open the files by opening Publisher 2007 and then opening the file I
want, but I prefer the simpler way of going thru My Documents.

At no time has the new Publisher asked if I want to convert the files. Is
there a way to convert 2000 files to 2007?

Have you tried changing the file associations? Right-click any Publisher file,
properties, opens with... I have four different Publisher icons in my list.

I don't know what went wrong when I installed my Office pro, but on impulse I
tried re-installing the program and doing a "repair". Now my files are
opening the way they should.

Before Publisher 2007 did not show up in my list of programs as an option
for opening files (I hope this makes sense), now it does.

Thank you for your reply, at least it got me to thinking of something else
to do.

I have four different Publisher icons in my list.

Does this imply that I can install Pub 2000 on the same machine as Pub
2007? I'm concerned that 2000 might overwrite a DLL that 2007 has
changed, or do something similarly disastrous.

Thanks,

John

Yup.

If I remember correctly, there is an option to remove the older
version that you can choose or not choose every time you install a
newer version.

You can but you need to install them in the order that they were released.

Yes, you can...just do a custom install, and install in a custom folder
rather than the default. Perhaps call the folder "Publisher 2000".

No you don't...not if you know what you are doing.

Please allow me to rephrase:

Microsoft recommends that multiple versions of Office be installed in the
order of release.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928091/en-us

And just in case you're going to argue Office version versus a stand-along
program:
"Note This installation order also applies to the Microsoft Office
stand-alone products, such as Microsoft Visio."

I have installed Publisher in every order known. As David says, just as long as
you create a folder first, Publisher works fine.

Rephrase and spin your answer anyway you want. It doesn't change the fact
that your answer was wrong, and you still have not correctly answered the
OPs question. It doesn't change the facts that the OP CAN install Pub 2000
on a machine that already has Pub 2007 installed, and you DO NOT have to
install different versions of Publisher in the order of release. This has
been discussed many, many times in this newsgroup. One would think that you
would have learned this by now...
