converting html 'user guide' created in Word to proper FP web -how

G

Geoff R

I created a user guide for a software application using MS Word

The 'home page' was created as an MHT file with frames, and links in the
left (contents) frame opend up .htm pages in the main frame.

Each page had text instructions and screenshots with text boxes and arrows
explaining how to use the application.

When it came to move it off the PC onto a server where users could access
it, initially all the links to underlying documents (htm) pages were lost and
it was a nightmare reconnecting everything.

The guide needs to be relocated again and as i now have FrontPage skills, I
want to turn it into a proper FP Web as it will then be much easier to manage

Is there an easy way to get the existing files into n FP web? because it is
currently just a collection of files and not a web, I don't seem to be able
to import it

any ideas appreciated

thanks

FP (and the web in general) does not support mht
Open each MHT in your browser and save as Html in a new single "web" folder - say: C:\MyWeb
(it will save a web page and a folder by same name with associated files)
Then open the new single "web" folder in FP and it will convert that folder to a FP web for you to edit
You will have a series of folders for the associated files that you can clean up by dragging all the image to one folder, etc

Stefan - thanks - made some progress - my local site (on my S: drive) now
appears to be a web.

however, I have published to a remote site (on my H: drive) and initially
thought it worked there too - but in fact all the hyperlinks still point to
the S: drive

I expected the links to modify on publishing - what have I done wrong?

If you had published to a server with FrontPage extensions I believe all
hyperlinks would have updated. You published to a disk based web w/o FPSE.
