converting Outlook 2003 files from UNICODE to ANSI format

Robert M Jones

I have a colleague who has had an Office 2003 beta expire on her while
she was away from home on holiday.

She has a paid for copy of Office XP, but of course it cannot open the
2003 pst file.

MSKB 830336 outlines a method to convert the UNICODE files to ANSI, but
of course requires a working copy of Outlook 2003 to do the conversion -
which now she does not have.

Is there any way we can get the pst file converted so Office XP can
access it, other than finding someone with Outlook 2003 and a CDRW
drive?

Money is tight so buying a full version of the 2003 program is not
possible - she just paid for the XP.

Many thanks.

She can either order a trial version or roll back the system clock to a date
prior to November 30 and then create a new .pst file and select the 97-2002
compatible version. Then drag and drop items from old .pst file to the
newly created one.

Hi Robert,

To add to Milly's reply, if the expired Office 2003 copy
is still installed and running in Reduced Functionallity Mode
(RFM) you should still be able to complete the Unicode to ANSI
format change on the PST file.

==========Many thanks - I'll pass that on.
