converting text to tables Word 2003

Hi,

I have some text which I want to convert to a table. I put tabs at the
appropriate locations, selected the lines but when I go to Tables/Convert the
Text to Table option is dimmed out (not avaliable). First, I thought it would
be something corrupt in the word document, but it is like that in an brand
new word document.

Any hints on reactivating it?

What view are you in? I have noticed that sometimes this function wont work
in Reading Layout or with Track Changes activiated.
