converting to Access 2003

I'm in a project that will be converting several thousand
(yes, thousand) Access file from 97/2000 to 2003 format.
We have a tool that can analyze files for possible
problems but manually opening and converting each file
will take forever.

I believe one can create an Access application to read in
and convert other files.. any ideas how this might work?
