Grumpy Old Man
Over the past years I have built several web pages on a web host that does
not have FrontPage Extensions but my pages were built with FrontPage98. (I
had been the admin for a discussion group on yet another host some years
ago.) Recently the primary domain of the group of which I am a member
shifted to a host that has FrontPage Extensions loaded. I would like to
convert my pages to FrontPage sites so I can use the FrontPage "permissions"
feature for privacy on a Child site.
I have attempted to connect to my primary web site but am getting an Error
Message when I try to enter my username and password telling me that I need
"Authoring permission." I have "talked" with the top-level webmaster of our
group and find that he isn't familiar with FrontPage but says that the
FrontPage extensions "have been successfully installed." (I don't know what
he really means.)
My questions are:
1. Without deleting my entire web installation can I convert those files
to FrontPage files?
2. Is there something the gent in charge needs to do in FP to give me
Admin or Authoring permission? If so, what?
I have figured out methods of "passwording" the page by using JavaScript
(several ways) but that depends on everyone's browser having JavaScript
enabled.
TIA
