Converting to Unicode in OL 2003

Hi,

I used to have OL 2002 and recently install Office 2003 and now use OL2003.
I am getting an error message that says
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error while archiving folder "Sent Items" in store "Personal Folders". The
file C:\Documents and Settings\mmoss\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst has reached its maximum size. To reduce
the amount of data in this file, select some items that you no longer need,
and then permanently delete them by pressing SHIFT+DELETE. You could also
consider using the new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with
Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The archive file is 1.8 GB and the main outlook file is 1.6 GB. Someone
suggested converting my pst file to unicode. I did some research in
Microsoft office online but could not find what I need. I don't have
exchange which it what most documents talk about. Does anyone have
directions to converting to a unicode pst file?

Also, if I need to break up my archive file into a couple of them how do I
do this?

Thanks,

You cannot "convert" an old PST file to 2003 format. You will have to
create a new 2003-type PST file for each old one, open it in Outlook,
then copy the contents of the old file to the new one. This is easiest
done by dragging and dropping entire folders from the old to the new file.

Do *not* use Import to get the old data into the new file!

Pat,

Thanks for your help. I can create a new outlook data file - say
outlooknew.pst in outlook 2003. I think this shows up under personal folders
right? Also, If I copy and paste everything over from the old pst to the new
in outlook, when I am finished what should I do? Do I close outlook, go to
where the pst files are stored and delete the outlook.pst, then rename
outlooknew.pst? I only want one outlook file and one archive file and would
prefer to keep them these names.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Chuck,

If you want to rename the files, first close all four files (the two old
ones and the two new ones) from within Outlook, then close Outlook. Next
you rename the new files (to be on the safe side, save the two old files
somewhere before deleting them), open Outlook, and open the two new files.

If you just named the files outlook2003.pst and archive2003.pst, maybe
renaming would be unnecessary?
