I just was offered a job and the HR people sent me everything to fill
out in Wordperfect! I run Microsoft Word Ver.X on an iMac with MAC OS
X.3.4 Can't seem to make any converter work. Any ideas? Thx!

Hi Timon,

MacLink Plus will do it for you:

<http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/>

You could also ask the HR people to send the document again as RTF, which
Word can read (assuming they can't actually send it as a Word document).

The other free way is this (thanks, Dayo):

Download a version of WP, install it in Classic, and use it to save your
documents as RTF or as Word, which Word X will then be able to open.

There's a couple places to get that:

http://acmfiles.csusb.edu/corel/wpmac.html
OR
ftp://ftp.r8ix.com/WP-L_Stuff/

How accommodating is the Company?

If they resend you the files in RTF format, you'll be able to read them
in Word, edit them, and send them back the same way.

If you're willing to spend some money (e.g., $80) to avoid asking them,
or if you're going to have to convert docs in the future, check out
DataViz's MacLinkPlus Deluxe:

Otherwise, I'd recommend trying to find a friend with a PC and
WordPerfect. The MS converters for WP to Word never really worked well,
and they don't work that well on a PC, either.

if you got to the http://www.r8ix.com website there is actually a
newsgroup that supports WP. They even have added files that were updated
by Corel before Dee-Sixing the Mac Version but downloaded and archived
before Corel wiped the server of all traces. Some of the people have
even improved some of the fringe items (Macros, fonts, etc).

Randy Singer a famous Lawyer is a major contributor. Supposedly (their
opinion) there are items in the Judiciary/Court systems That Only WP can
do and nothing else can. And supposedly only the Mac version can do and
not the PC version. Randy Singer is also author of books on WP and he
has a website with tips on use of WP and has been updated to include OSX
(using Classic mode).

The latest official version is 3.5.e but there are some tweaks that can
be done to change it to Version 4.

Until Office2001 came along word 6.01 just wouldn't do envelopes, even
though there was an envelope tool.

MacLinkPlus Deluxe is probably your best option. WP 3.5e (even tweaked to
4.0) may not be able to handle more recent versions of WP for Windows. It's
worth a try, of course.
