Converting works wps files to Word.

I had a large number of notes which were saved on Works as wps, and wks The
current computer runs Office on Xp home. I need to read/convert the note, but
am unable to find anything to help. Is there any way of retrievial, or must
I abandon this valauble resource to oblivion?
I am non-technical, so simple procedure advise is applicable.

What version of Works? What version of Word?

Works 95 and word as in office 2000 - hope this identifies them (said I was
non technical.
