Converting WPS Files?

–dash

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have a document that was created in WordPerfect on a pc. Is there anyway to open it directly in Word 2008? Seems there should be a way.

I can convert it over to a Word document on a pc and save it there as a Word 2003 doc and then transfer it back to the Mac, but prefer to be able to just open it on a Mac without the pc routine. Possible?

If you need to do this often, invest in MacLink Plus, by Dataviz -- it's a
very good application.

Someone else may be able to comment about certain versions of WordPerfect
for the Mac and their current availability (there was a free one) and
suitability, but my information is well out of date on that topic and I
don't want to mislead you.

WordPerfect 3.5e can be downloaded for free, but it's a Classic application
only, so it won't run on any Mac under Leopard, let alone on an Intel Mac
(without much tweaking, that is). Furthermore, because the last version of
WordPerfect for Mac is quite dated, it may not be able to open more recent
WordPerfect documents created by the PC version.

If you only need to open the occasional WordPerfect document, you have a two
choices:

* use a Windows PC (or software such as Boot Camp) with either WordPerfect
or Microsoft Word, as both can open this type of document. Save your
document in a format that Mac Word can understand.

* use AbiWord, an Open Source cross-platform word processor that comes with
a very basic WordPerfect filter.

The Last Mac version is 3.5.e and runs in OS9

either on an OS9 drive or in OS9 loaded in Classic.

And can even work through OS8.6.1 with the use of a emulation software
called Sheepshaver on an Intel Mac.

There is a a Yahoo newsgroup devoted to 3.5e headed up by a Lawyer name
John Rethorst. There are Many Lawyers Courts and Judges That still use
WP Mac because of its ability to create easily legalese and legal
Boilerplate.
Just go to Yahoo newsgroups and Type in WordPerfect. From my
Understanding WP Mac understands all WP files except the very latest
version.
