If you copied the whole folder holding you notebooks there should be no
problem.

Just open from the "File | Open ... " dialog by highlighting the
notebook file and then clicking on the "Open" button in the dialog.

My error. I was not clear. I copied over a file from the old to the new
compute called "Onenote notebooks". It has a dozen files, each was a
notebook. I now go to open one (using the "open notebook" from within
Onenote) and they all open - correctly - except opening as notebooks they
open as "groups" with the three folder icons. I would like to convert the
"groups" back to notebooks and can't yet see a way to do it. Thanks for
responding.

You just need to close the huge notebook and then do File -> Open Notebook
for each notebook that you want to open. For example, if your folder
structure looks like:

OneNote Notebooks
- Notebooks I Copied
- - Math
- - History
- - Science

If you click on "Notebooks I Copied" as the notebook to open, Math, History,
and Science will be opened as section groups. So instead, you should open
Math, History, and Science separately.

In the event that you only copied the .one files and not the folder
structure, you can simply create a folder structure on disk. The basic idea
here is that there is no concept of a "notebook" on disk. Only .one files.
It's really quite simple. So whatever folder on disk the .one files are in,
that is your notebook and that is the folder you should open. If you open a
folder that contains other folders, those folders will be section groups.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the scenario.
What do you mean by "three folder icons"??
I don't get more then just 1 icon in the dialog for opening files.

He means an icon that looks like three overlapping folders instead of just
one folder. This icon indicates a section group as opposed to a section.

Thanks for clarifying.
Never noticed that before.
And under Vista I do not see that in the dialog.

Take a look at the following screen shot. I blocked out the notebook names
but you can see that the sections have a single folder icon whereas a
section group has the icon of three overlapping folders. That's what he's
referring to I believe.

Thanks a lot Josh!
I'm using section group a lot.
But I would have never guessed that the OP was talking about the section
group icon in the navigation bar which actually only shows only *two*
overlapping folder and a "+/-" sign).

Tanks again and pls excuse me for being that stubborn

Actually, I wrote a SnagIt plugin that did a very similar "publish to the
web and put the url on the clipboard" but it only worked for my server and
required a UNC path and a cooresponding web url to map to. Honestly I'd
rather just re-write that plugin to work with Screencast.com if SnagIt
doesn't already do that now. Jing confuses me. Not the program itself, but
rather what the strategy is. I don't really understand why they didn't just
use the SnagIt code base and just make it a SnagIt Light or SnagIt Basic or
something.

The lack of editing features and various outputs are hard to get used to
after using SnagIt for so long, but I really do appreciate that simple
publish to the web aspect.

Back almost to the top, yes, this did help. The key was to close the notebook
with the open groups and reopen the notebooks from the .one files.

I very much appreciate your coming in and being so helpful. I practically
live in onenote.

Thanks for the feedback.
Glad to hear that you got things going again!

Apart: It seems that it would not be *me* to receive any "thanks".

All the best!
