Copy a template to Windows 98 with Word 97

Hello All,
I'm trying to copy a template (hopefully the new one that contains my 2,000
AutoText entries) from a Windows XP/Word 2002 PC to a Windows 98/Word 97 PC.

First, is copying as simple as locating the template and copying it to a
floppy?

Second, is it backward compatible?
Many Thanks,

Hi =?Utf-8?B?Sm9obiBpbiBSaXZlcmJhbms=?=,

It should be. Although it's usually safer to ZIP Word file, first, in case the
data transmission "hiccups".
Second, is it backward compatible?
Theoretically, yes. In practice, hard to say. One problem could be whether
your AutoText entries contain anything not supported in Word 97 (certain
graphics and table features, for example).

Another problem could be if your Normal.dot is slightly damaged. I recommend
you
- rename Normal.dot to NormalOLD.dot
- start Word (this generates a new, "clean" normal.dot)
- save the current document as a template
- Tools/Templates and Add-ins/Organizer
- On the right side, open your NormalOLD.dot
- Copy the AutoText entries from that into your new template
- Save and close the template, take it with you to the other installation and
use the same method to copy the AutoText entries from it into the existing
Normal.dot, there

You can rename NormalOLD.dot back to Normal.dot on your current installation.

Thank You Cindy M.,
I went ahead and tried it anyway and it worked. We haven't actually tried a
report on the older computer yet, but that day will come soon. I will keep
your information close when that time comes.
