Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

I have Office 2004 and have just started playing around with Combo Boxes in
Excel. I¹ve discovered that without fail, every time I attempt to copy and
paste a Combo Box from one cell to another, Excel will quit, ask me to send
the crash report an then restart.

I opened up the file in Excel on a PC running Windows 2000 and was able to
copy and paste to my hearts content.

Is this a bug?

I just tried it and it works fine. What is the data source and cell link in
the combo box you are trying to paste? Have you applied the service pack to
upgrade Excel to 11.1?

Yes the service pack has been applied. The combo box is referring to a
simple list on another worksheet I¹ve labelled as codes in the document. The
list on the other worksheet is the whole of 8 cells and Excel quits on the
copy so you don¹t even get to to paste the combo box. I found another
document that has combo boxes in it as well and the same thing happens.

I¹m running a G4 powerbook, 1.5ghz with 2 gig of ram in it, so I don¹t think
it¹s a ram or a processor problem.

Well, I can repro if the list is on another workbook. If the list is on
another sheet in the same workbook, it seems to work fine. I¹ll report it.

I can copy comboboxes with the setup you describe. You can download my
test workbook from

If it doesn't work for you, try the techniques here:

That works fine! However, put the source of the combo box on another
workbook. Then try copying it.

Ah. WorkBOOK. Should have tried that...
