Copy and Paste Graphics into Word 2002 docs

I'm no Word pro, so please bear with me if this is a dumb question :)

I would like to copy and paste .bmp files directly into a Word 2002 .doc in
Normal View. It works, but it always degrades the quality of the image.

Is there a setting that allows you to keep the image quality of these pasted
graphics?

Thanks for any and all help!

Have you tried Insert | Picture | From File?

Hi Tom,
If you use Edit=>Paste Special what is the paste format
you're using?

How are you getting a .BMP file onto the clipboard (source)?

In Tools=>Options=>General=>Web Options what is
the pixel per inch setting in the Pictures tab?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for replying!

I'm saving the .bmp from a VMware 4.0 screenshot. The .bmp is good quality.
I then open the .bmp in a program called Irfanview and copy the entire
graphic to the clipboard using the Irfanview Copy command.

In the Word .doc, I just position the insertion point where I want it, and
then use the CTRL+V sequence and paste it right in.

In the Tools/Options/General/Web Options dialog box, I get 96 pixels per
inch. Would changing it to 120 help?

Thanks!

I have found that re-sizing a .bmp from its original size often gives very
unsatisfactory results, lots of pixellation, etc. If you keep the original
size, bmps should remain fairly true to the original.

Hi everyone,

I figured it out with the help of several of you!

When I paste the .bmp that was copied to the clipboard into the .doc, it
degrades the image. So and created a "format picture" button on my toolbar.

I configured the General/Web graphics setting to be 120ppi and 1024x768 (I
have no idea what those do, but it seemed good :))

When I paste the graphic into the Word .doc, it still looks bad. But, then I
click on the "format picture" button and change the height and width to 125%
and 125%.

Bingo!!! It looks great.

Thanks for the tips!
