Copy and paste into html documents

In Word 2004 I could copy text and paste into a html page - Unable to do that in Word 2008 - I first have to save it as html and then copy and paste into the html document - this is awful because it throws all types of code into the page that I don't want. Is there any way to set preferences in word to prevent this - same for Excel 2008. It was so easy before the update.

Are you using Dreamweaver to create your html pages? This is a known
issue, and MS is blaming DW. (I think I didn't have the same problem in
GoLive, but I hate GoLive). If you are not using DW, what are you using?
You've found a new issue.

Yep, it sucks. Complain to MS here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/suggestions.mspx

and to Adobe here:

My workaround is copying into Word 2004 and then re-copying. Hope you
didn't delete it! You can also use Edit | Paste Special | Plain Text
(or Text Only) in DW, and that will get the basic text into DW, but
you'll have to re-add all the paragraph breaks, formatting, etc.

Re saving as WebPage from Word--DW has a "Clean Up Word HTML" command.
Combined with a few saved Find and Replaces in DW, that could provide
another workaround.

I am using Dreamweaver - I reinstalled Word 2004 for now. Until it is fixed I don't intend to use 2008. I only installed Office 2008 because I needed to test Entourage with our Exchange service. Entourage seems to be working well so far. It was when I tried to go into Word that I experienced problems. So I am using Entourage 2008 and the other components are 2004.

I did the workaround - paste special as plain text (since that was the only option that worked) but it is a real pain. I do too many web pages to go through that.

I also sometimes copy from Excel and it usually just creates a simple table in my web page - this time it created tons of html formatting (table borders, % sizes for each of the cells, etc) so that didn't work well for me either. I tried saving word as a web page but these workarounds actually create so much more work that it was easier to use 2004. Thanks for the advice - will see how Adobe and Microsoft respond.

Totally agree that all of the workarounds are too much trouble. This
would also send me back to Word 2004.
