copy and paste org charts

I have created a large org chart and want to break it down to a smaller one,
I select the shapes, copy, go to new file and paste, but nothing appears. If
I open a new file and create a new org chart I can copy and paste with no
problem, so it just seems to be that file that does not allow me, I have no
proctetion and my layesr look good. Any suggestions?
