Copy and paste summary task

Hello,

I have a problem with copy and paste summary task.
I'm trying to select the all summary task from the left column.
When I press "Copy" the "Paste" button become gray.
Other Copy paste work just fine.

Please advice.

Hi Poni,

Give us a bit more information please and we'll try to help. Are
you attempting this in PWA or in the Project client? If in the
Project client, what version of Project and what service pack do you
have applied?

The only way I can reproduce what you report (Paste command
unavailable) in the Project client is if I have a group applied to
the project file. Do you have a group applied? Do you have a
filter or sort applied? When you say select all summary tasks are
you selecting several at the same time? Can you select a single
summary task and copy/paste?

No group. No filter. No sort.
I'm selecting only one summary.

I know that for other users it works just fine. so the question is what is
the different between us or what did I do wrong ?

Does this happen with all project files or only one?

There are differences in the **behavior** of copying and pasting a
summary task in Project 2007 that may vary from instance to
instance. Installations of Project 2007 running the August 2008
Cumulative Update (hotfix 21636) see a different result than people
running an installation without the hotfix. The difference is the
tasks which are pasted -- prior to the hotfix, if you selected a
summary task copied and pasted, the subtasks would be pasted as
well. After the hotfix, only if the summary task is collapsed do
the subtasks get pasted. This is not what you appear to be
describing however.

I have been trying to reproduce what you report in my installation
of Project 2007 SP-2 without luck. Please give detailed steps about
what you are doing when you select and copy the summary task.

Are you selecting by the row number or just the task?
How are you executing the copy?
What operating system are you using?

Ah, I think I may have discovered what you are doing. When you say
you are "trying to select the all summary task" are you talking
about the Project Summary Task -- the one at line (ID) zero? Is the
task collapsed (plus mark) to show no other tasks below? If I
select the collapsed project summary task and attempt to copy/paste
within the same project file, the paste is unsuccessful.

Is this what is going on?

Hi Julie,

No, I selected a regular summary task.

But.... I find the problem.

We had 2 enterprise custom field which were deleted from the project server
but not from the enterprise gantt chart.
I saw the fields with the name "Unavailble". after I hide this fields the
copy paste work just fine.
