Copy and Pasting in Office 2003

Vince

Hello,

We have recently upgraded from Office 2000 to Office 2003 SP2 with clients
ranging from Windows 2000 SP4 to Windows XP sp2. The problem is not
consistent but random. The workaround is to reboot the computer and it's
fine again. This could be copying and pasting text within the same
application, same document or between applications.

Great information on your setup but the problem you are encountering
is a bit vague. :)

What is the problem exactly? Does it cause a crash? Application hang?
Are you copying or pasting when the error occurs? Or is it not an
error? Is something else pasted instead of what was copied? Is Copy
not enabled? Is Paste not enabled?

Sorry for the vague problem description. The problem we are encountering is
cutting or copying a text/sentense and pasting it to another location on the
same document or between applications. Using either the menu function, short
cut key function or right click function, all method exhibit the same
problem. When pasting, nothing appeared, it does not crash or hang the
application, just nothing. The cursor remains blinking after activating the
paste function. The problem seems to go away after rebooting the machine.
Again, this problem is random and is not consistent. I can never duplicate
the problem.

What's interesting is that only upgraded machine from Office 2000 to Office
2003 exhibit this problem.

Hi Vince,

Thanks for the additional details - they really help. :)

Since it is intermittent, let's see if we can narrow it down a bit
further.

- Does it occur in all Office apps?
- Does it occur in one app more than another?
- When copy/pasting between applications are both running prior to
copying? IOW, is the copy action being preformed and then the
destination application started prior to pasting?
- If in a single application, are both the source and destination
files already open prior to copying?
- Is there any third-party Clipboard software installed?

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
