Copy before opening Word 2007 results in failed paste

All updates are installed. Has anyone seen this and found a solution? If I
copy some text before I open Word (can be from anywhere but I use IE or
Outlook most) then when I try to paste in Word I just get a tiny symbol
instead of the text. If I do the copy and paste again, once Word is opened, I
do not get the problem.

If I expand the symbol it looks like an icon for a PDF with a chain-link on
top of it.

There are some add-ins that sometimes interfere with the operation of the
clipboard. My suggestion would be to try disabling any Word add-ins to see
if the problem stops.

Thank you Herb. This was exactly the problem. Scansoft PDF add-in was causing
this (hence the PDF-style symbol).

As I recall, some versions of Adobe's add-in caused the problem, as well...
Good to know the cause... so you can decide whether to dump or put up with.
