Copy formula?

N

Nicholas

I'm a firstime table builder and this should be a simple question for
anyone in the know.

I'm building a 4 column table.

Quantity, item, price, total price = quantity * price. =(a1*a3)

Is there any way that I can copy the formula into each cell of column 4
without having to retype it every time. (to a2, a3 a4...etc.) There
must be some way to have the column automaticly add the formula to each
new cell and update the cell numbers.

Thanks in advance.

You can embed an Excel sheet to do this.

Hi Nicholas,

Word is emphatically not a spreadsheet program. This was a conscious
decision made by Microsoft back around 1992-93 when Word 6.0 was brought
out. People were being encouraged to buy the "Office Suite" (a marketing
move to better compete against Lotus 1-2-3, etc.) and embed Excel sheets
when such functionality was required.

nice theory, but I have to wonder if its proponents ever really needed to
work with Word in the real world...

What you ask can be done using fields, but it's not the simplest thing in
the world to set up. You'll find an example in the "Numbering" section of
my website.
