Copy hyperlink error in Word 2007

B

Benjamin Barrett

Hyperlinks are not copied and/or pasted correctly in Word 2007.

Here's my process:

1. I right click on a hyperlink in Word 2007 and select "copy hyperlink".
2. I click on text where I need to paste the hyperlink to.
3. I click hyperlink, which opens a dialogue.
4. I press Control V to paste in the hyperlink.
5. The hyperlink is wrong.

This is for hyperlinks that are extremely long. I cannot shorten the length
of the hyperlink or provide an example because this is a document from a
client.

"The hyperlink is wrong"... in what way? Is it truncated? How long is the
hyperlink? If it's truncated, how much of it is lopped off? Is it a URL?

Can you expand the hyperlink field code (Alt+F9) and insert the URL
manually? (press Alt+F9 afterwards to toggle field code display, then press
F9 to update the field).

Thank you for the response. The URL hyperlink is trunated from 228 to 148
characters. Alt + F9 doesn't do anything on my computer.

Not exactly related, but when I paste the hyperlink into different text and
then right click and copy the hyperlink again, pasting results in pasting the
text, not the hyperlink.

Alt+F9 should toggle field code display on/off. You can also toggle using
Office button - Word Options - Advanced tab - Show document content, "Show
field codes instead of their values" (not exactly brief, which is why there
is a keyboard shortcut).

Thank you for that.

Toggling it, I found that the part that gets cut off is not the hyperlink
per se but a section that is after the hyperlink.

The format is as follows: { HYPERLINK "[hyperlink here"] \l "[string of
numbers]" \t "data"}

I think this should be adequate as a bug report. Although troublesome, I can
work around this. I doubt Microsoft will bother fixing it unless a lot more
people complain.

To report it as a bug, I'd need to see it happen... and it doesn't seem to
happen here. Can you post an example URL/hyperlink for which it occurs? I've
tried a bunch, but the hyperlinks are all pasted correctly.

When I set the options to display the content of the hyperlink, here is what
is displayed within braces of one of the hyperlinks (after modifying the
actual content slightly):

HYPERLINK
"http://gonsabu.rodin.or.adxmi.ca.cn/KAUMU/htmldata/J14/J14JO045.html" \l
"1000000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000#1000000000001000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000" \t "data"

The source hyperlink is in Japanese, and I was trying to paste this
information into English text.

I've used work-arounds and turned in the job, but I hope a bug report will
be issued for this.

TIA
