copy mail merge template?

Hi,

Does anyone know whether there are compatibility issues making it
impossible to copy a WordXP template with mailmerge to Word2000?

I copied a Word XP template with mailmerge fields (the data source is an
Excel worksheet) to the templates folder of my Word 2000 installation. When
I opened it in Word 2000, no connection seemed to exist to the data source,
the MailMerge toolbar cannot be selected in the View menu because it's
simply not displayed, and no MailMerge toolbar is visible.
