Copy n Paste Outline Number problem

I need to copy parts of a document in Word 2003 that has an outline
numbered format. When I go to copy paragraph 3.2 from one document
and paste it to a new document, the number revverts to 1.1.

Is there a way to paste this to keep the original number? I didn't
see anything in Paste Special.

Have you tried pasting as "Unformatted text" (via the Paste Special
dialog box)? This would insert outline numbers as text.

Yes,

THis will work but the formatting gets real messy. I have about 100
paragraphs to copy from one document to another and it has a mix of
formats and tables. I may just have to rough it.

Creating "unnumbered versions" of the styles with the correct
formatting would obviously help a lot, since anything pasted as
unformatted text will assume the formatting at the location of the
paste. But of course, this will be a time-consuming task; I don't
think there is a way to get around that.
