'copy or move' name conflict

At a point in the way we work we copy the whole worksheet and start using
this one to preserve the information we were at. When copying we get the
message:
"A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name “JHâ€, which
already exists on the destination worksheet. Do you want to use this version
of the name?
To use the name as defined in the destination sheet, click Yes.
To rename the range referred to in the formula or worksheet, click NO, and
enter a new name in the Name Conflict dialog box.
[YES] [NO]"
and then it one by one goes through names that are already in the destination.
Problem 1: we are copying the entire sheet so there should be nothing in the
destination.
Problem 2: I have searches some of the names it goves me in the sheet and
they aren't even there!
We work on excel 2003 & 2007 but save as .xls

It is probably a defined name on the worksheet. In Excel 2007, select
Formulas ribbon then Name manager in the Defined names block in the center of
the ribbon.

I hope that I did not mislead you. If you removed the names and they are used
in formulas then the formulas will fail. Since you are copying the entire
worksheet, the best way is to:-

Right click the worksheet name tab
Select Move or Copy
Check the Create copy checkbox
Select either Before Sheet xx or Move to end
Click OK.

There are big advantages to this way in that all formatting and page setups
for printing etc get copied.

If you now look at name manager, you will see that the names are copied but
they only have a Scope of the new worksheet instead of the Workbook.

What was apparently occurring before is that the names already existed in
the worksheet to which you were pasting and you were getting multiple
identical names on the sheet which you can't have.
