Copy Paste Bug

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

I am having trouble copy and pasting from Word 2008 into ALL of my everyday applications (ie: iChat, Safari, Fireworks, Flash, Dreamweaver) I have read the answers supplied by the Admins (ie: I don't use iChat, email Adobe) these are not valid answers. That's fine that Word is ahead of the curve and uses xml and pointers to handle copying and pasting text. However, the fact that I have to copy from Word, open text edit, paste text into text edit then copy from text edit and paste into my application of choice is hardly a time effective process. I create websites. I get copy from my clients in word documents. I would like to be able to copy and paste this text. Seems like one of the most common practices in any application. Can anyone please shed some light if there is a preference where I can disable something or if there is any light at the end of this tunnel.

Thanks.

There are no admins here, first of all.

Second--what do you mean "not valid answers"? These are the answers
that exist. That they don't solve the problem doesn't mean they are not
valid. You sound like you think someone is deliberately hiding a secret
from you.

I can paste into Safari in OS 10.4 fine, so that problem might be
fixable, or might be a Leopard bug, though it would be a new one.

There is nothing you can do about the other manifestations of the
problem except workaround it and complain to MS and Adobe, in hopes of a
fix.

Complain to MS here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/suggestions.mspx

and to Adobe here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

My workaround is copying into Word 2004 and then re-copying. Hope you
didn't delete it! You can also use Edit | Paste Special | Plain Text
(or Text Only) in DW, and that will get the basic text into DW, but
you'll have to re-add all the paragraph breaks, formatting, etc. In
addition, using a clipboard utility will sometimes let you choose which
format is pasted even if the app doesn't offer a Paste Special menu--I
found that using the one in YouControl let me paste text into InDesign
and Fireworks, instead of pictures, but it didn't improve the DW situation.

There simply is no such setting. The content of a Word doc is basically
static, but complex. The OS supplies the Copy function & copies everything
about the material being copied. Then it's up to the application being
pasted into to determine what part of the content it will take. The source
is not involved at all.

I'm sorry if you don't like the answer, but what we prefer doesn't change
what is:)

Sorry for my rather harsh and quick to judge complaint. I truly do appreciate a response at all to my rant. I realize all will eventually work out and sure at some point the issue will be resolved. I jumped on here after spending the entire day having to copy paste content and was just a bit frustrated since prior to my 2008 upgrade my workflow was much easier than the present. Thanks everyone and I hope to hear of a solution soon. I just might reinstall my 2004 version of Word to have as a temporary solution for my copy/paste worries until then.

Thanks for your apology. :)

Did you see the part where I mentioned that a clipboard utility did let
me paste text into InDesign and Fireworks, instead of pasting images?
Basically, the utility offered an Edit | Paste Special menu to paste
unformatted text, because neither ID or FW have one. Might be a small help.

A solution will probably require an update from either MS or Adobe. You
should complain, because the more complaints they get, the more
incentive to fix it.

You can safely run Word 2004 and 2008 side by side, although there are
problems setting the default to 2004.

Hi Athena:

The "Source" in this case makes about eight different formats available.

It's up to DW to ask for the one it wants :)

Given that the default format is XML, and that's the same as what DW is
trying to produce, I fail to see why Adobe thinks it is so hard!

Cheers

Well, Dreamweaver CS3 does not like the copied content of Word 2008 because I
also have had this issue. I suppose it is not the sources responsibility that
the contents should comply with Dreamweaver CS3. Meh! Unfortunately, Adobe
will not be fixing this issue until the next version (CS4).:pbpt:

If you using DW there is a feature to, to fix MS word Code either in
options or tools menu. That might work I know The Studio 8 version I
have does so for Office 2004.

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!
