Copy/Paste embedded object from Word to PowerPoint loses icon.

If, in Word, I select Insert Object -> Create From File, choose to display
an icon and select a custom icon I get an icon with a link to the embedded
file. Now if I copy that to the clipboard and paste it in PowerPoint I get
the same embedded file but the first time I double-click it or save the file
the icon disappears. Can I do anything to avoid this apart from inserting
the embedded file directly in PowerPoint?
