Copy/Paste Excel 2003 lag

I am having a problem with copying/pasting in Excel 2003. It takes a
long time to copy and paste from one spreadsheet to another.
Info:
We have a worksheet with 6 sheets in them. The filesize is 26 MB. It
links to another worksheet. That other worksheet links to another excel
file or the Internet. We have 5 files that are practicually the same.
All are around 26 MB. We open these six files the same time along with
the files it links to. In total, there's about 7-8 excel files open.
The files consist of formulas and text. Any idea what's causing a delay
in copying/pasting. Whether it be a formula(s) or just text, it takes
long. Any idea or suggestions what could be causing the problem.

Sounds like a rather heavy duty operation, but you make no mention of the
specs of the rig you're doing this on. I don't know that I have the answer,
but I can say that more info is required in order to make even that
determination :)

If you're running a G4 MacBook with 512 MB & a 56K dial-up as opposed to a
shiny new Intel Mac Pro 3 GHz with RAM to spare & a T1 line the analysis
might vary quite a bit. My guess is that you're somewhere in between?

More info about exactly what it is that "takes long" would also be helpful -
Delay between the Copy action & the readiness to Paste or between issuing
the Paste command & the appearance of the pasted material? Is the material
being copied stuff that is being supplied to the 'source' via one or more
links? What more can you tell us?

Specs of the computer:

Dell Precision 490
Dual Core Xeon 2Ghz 4MB L2 cache. FSB - 1333mhz
2GB ECC SDRAM 667
80GB SATA 10K RPM

The part that takes long is pasting the material. I am pasting in a
spot where there are values already. Would it be better to paste in a
blank section?

The part that takes long is pasting a formula with a link to another
excel file.

Ah... See I told you more info would provide some insight... You've landed
in the newsgroup for Mac XL :) I didn't even glom on to the 2003 when I
first saw your post... Today's been a long week :}

Sounds like the hardware ought to be up to the challenge, but the manner in
which Windows operates copy & paste is not something in which I'm
particularly well-versed. You might try the microsoft.public.excel.links
newsgroup for more immediate & more accurate info.
