copy/paste excel charts as pictures

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

When I attempt to paste charts from Excel into Word using the 'copy picture' command, it tells me 'not enough memory'. So I upgraded from 512 Ram to 1.5 Ram, but still the same message. What's the problem?
