Copy revision text to new document and retain marking?

D

Denzel

Using Microsoft Word 2002 (10.6764.6735) SP3.

I have one document with revision text marked in it (additions and
deletions). I want to move this text to another document and retain the
revised text marked as it is in the original document. Seems like I've done
this before, but it doesn't work now.

If the second document has tracking turned on, all the moved text is marked
as an addition (deleted text is gone). This is what I would expect.

If the second document has tracking turned off, all the moved text is
unmarked (deleted text is gone). This is not what I expected. Seems like
before, it would copy over with the same markings. I've included paragraph
marks with the move and included section marks with the move and see no
difference. Also, when I move with the section marking, the default move is
now "Match destination formating" instead of "Keep source formating."

What do I need to do?

Thanks for your help

Save As to a copy of the entire document. Turn off tracked changes. Delete
the portion you do not want.

Thanks, but....

This doesn't get this portion into my new document. I still need to cut and
paste this into another document. Yes, I could do what you suggest and then
cut and paste my new document into the modified old document - but - what if
both documents have revisions marked into them and I want to perserve both
markings? Eventually, I'll have to cut and paste one portion into another.
Thanks for the workaround, but how can I get Word to do this on the
straight?

Thanks.

Okay, I remember now. I've done this before.

I can answer my own question. The trick is that the document that you want
to copy from must have 'mark revisions' turned OFF and the document you want
to copy into must have 'mark revisions' turned OFF. When you do this, the
revision marking from the first document is carried to the second document
as you cut and paste.

It just took a few days away from the problem to figure it out.
