copy ruler

I want to change margins and tabs from my original setting to a new setting. My document is 80 pages. I do NOT want to change formatting because I have varied styles (italics here and there throughout). I simply want to alter the ruler settings (margins and tabs) and apply the new settings throughout the document. HOW CAN I COPY THE RULER AND THEN PASTE THE RULER TO APPLY ELSEWHERE? This seems impossible and I cannot find any reference in Office Help without copying formatting-- which I don't want to do! Thank you!!

You are quite correct, it IS impossible :)

That's not the way a Word document works.

The MARGINS are a property of the document Section. If you want different
margins, insert a Section Break. You can then adjust the margins of the
text following the section break if you click after the section break.

When you change the margins, you change the margins for all of the text
following the section break you inserted down to the next section break. A
document always has one section, it can have a large number of other section
breaks if you like.

A "section" can be thought of (and use to create...) a "Chapter". But it
can also be tiny, used only to do something special such as protect a field.

TABs, on the other hand, are a property of the Document, and a style, and a
paragraph. The DEFAULT tabs, however, are a property only of the DOCUMENT.
So you can change them, but if you do, you change them for the whole
document.

Much better to change the tabs only in the styles where you want different
tabs. That way, things will line up throughout the document.

Hope this helps
