Recently (in the last week), OneNote 2007 has started to freeze for 3-20
seconds when I copy to the clipboard
I obtain this behavior now quite systematically when:
1) I do "copy hyperlink to this page" inside OneNote
2) When I use the 'Screen clipping feature' (Windows Key + S) and then try
to go abck to OneNote, it will take several seconds before OneNote will
become responsive again (all my other applications are fine).
3) Just copying simple text also does that now from anywhere in Windows
(e.g. copying a url from Firefox, then I transfer control back to OneNote, it
will take a few seconds before it responds again).
I tried the following:
- restarting Windows
- restarting OneNote
- closing all my folders in OneNote except a small one (my OneNote
Nootebooks folder is now 445 Mb, so I have a lot of notes and thought this
could be why, but even a small folder reproduces the problem)
- changing the 'default paste' option in OneNote from 'keep source
formatting' to 'keep text only'
None of those solved my problem. I am suspicious that a recent Windows XP
update has been causing this, though I don't know enough about Windows to
figure out if the security update for Windows XP KB943460 is the one which
could be responsible. The only two other updates which were installed
recently (all on November 13th) are the Update for Outlook Junk Email Filter
2003 (KB943552) and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2007
(KB890830) which I doubt has nothing to do with this...
More info about my system:
I have:
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6017.5000)
- Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 SP2
- Lenovo Intel Core Duo with 2 Gb of RAM
Also, the OneNote freeze is not caused by hogging the CPU (it stays around
0%) or by slow disk access (the disk access light on my laptop doesn't flash
more than a usual no activity when this happens).
Anybody else is having similar issues? I make *very extensive* use of
OneNote, and this new behavior is terribly annoying... I have been using it
for a year now without a problem similar to this.
Thanks,
Simon
