Copying and pasting a workplan into the master

Hi,
I am trying to do the following:
I am copying and pasting about 300 lines from one workplan to another.
The master plan has 17,000 hours and when I was trying to copy and
paste the 300 lines from a new plan (lets call it plan A) into the
master, I am loosing 1,500 hours. When I did a contrast of the master
before and after the pasting, I notice that it messes up the hours on
certain resources on only certain deliverables.
Could you please advise what the issue could be? Plan A was created by
another team member, so is it something in his settings that making me
loose the resources and the hours?
Thanks,
Vidita.

Also, I just realized that Plan A is in an older version of Microsoft
Project. Do you think that is the problem?
Please advise.
Regards,
Vidita.

Vidita,
Well first of all, why are you copying and pasting? You would be much
better off creating the master by using the insertion method (i.e.
Insert/Project). If you only want a selected set of tasks from plan A,
then you could do a static consolidation, that is, uncheck the "link to
project" button in the lower right corner of the Insert Project window.
After the static master is created, delete the tasks you don't want.

However, if you are seeing a difference in assignments, it is most
likely due to different project calendars, task calendars, or resource
calendars between the "master" and plan A.

The fact that Plan A was created in a different version of Project most
likely is not relevant, unless, one of those versions is prior to
Project 2000 or later than Project 2003.

Hope this helps.
