Copying and pasting

Whenever I copy and paste text formatted with Heading
styles from a Word 97 document into a WXP document that
have Heading styles defined in a differnt way, depending
on which settings I have set in Tools, Options, Edit, the
Heading styles may be different. Sometimes the pasted
text will be formatted the same as the styles in the
document into which it is pasted (this was the same as in
Word 97) and sometimes it keeps its original formatting.
Sometimes the paste option icon gives me 3 or 4 options:
use source document styles, match destination style, plain
text, and sometimes there is another option, use
destination styles. Sometimes even when I select 'use
destination styles' the styles in the destination document
are not applied. This seems to happen when the text I'm
pasting contains text formatted with list styles, i.e.,
bulleted lists, numbered list, etc. Can anyone tell me if
they've experienced this, and if so, what was the cause
and solution? Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Hi genys,

As a rule, Text pasted from one document to another takes on the formatting
of the styles in the target document. The exceptions are (a) the styles
don't exist in the target document; or (b) the author of the source document
has over-ridden the style formatting there with hard formatting. Even for
(a) style dependencies may mean that the pasted result looks different in
the target document.

Cheers
