Copying data from Access to Excel

I use Office XP and recently had my PC "fixed" and the software reloaded.
Now when I copy data from an Access table or query and paste it into Excel,
what should be number fields are all text. I can multiply all cells by 1 to
turn them into numbers, but this wasn't happening before.
Any thoughts?
