COPYING FORMULAS FROM FILE TO FILE

I have Microsoft Office 97. In Excel, when I try to copy
a spreadsheet workbook to another completely separate
excel spreadsheet, the formulas do not
copy....just "values." Is this common in Excel 97? Do I
have something disabled?
