Copying graphics from PPT to Word

I have lots of graphics created in PPT. The are usually a grouped collection
of pictures, text boxes, and shapes. With 2007, when I copy a grouped object
into Word, I can't ungroup and edit it. The only paste options I have are the
Microsoft Offcie Graphic Object and several picture formats. None of which
allow me to ungroup the object and make changes. With 2003 this was
relatively srtaightforward.

Unfortunately you're not doing any thing wrong. Office 2007 also received a
new graphics engine but all of the features didn't extend to Word 2007. This
is due to retaining compatibility with previous version of Word. Graphics in
Word 2007 are buggy. :-( If you save the document in the 97-2003 file format
they become a little more stable since the old graphics engine is used, but
I doubt it will help much in this case since the copied object was created
using the new graphics engine. You can also insert a Drawing Canvas but
that's not ideal either. Your best bet is to make all of the changes in PPT
(or Excel believe it or not) and use the final graphic in Word 2007.
