copying images from web sites

I am having trouble copying and pasting web images to
Word documents. I have Office XP Professional. Why can
these not be copied when my children can copy these items
at school and I could when I had only Works.

Because what you are copying are links to images - not the images
themselves. You either need to right-click the image on the web page
and use "Save Picture As" an then insert the image into your document
or once you paste select the image and press Ctrl + Shift + F9 to
break the link and embed the image.

If this is not what you are encountering then please supply additional
details on what you are encountering.

.
I do right click and have tried Save as, that does not
work either. If I copy and paste, even using the F9-
contol-shift, the image does not print...it does not
transcribe and is in gobbly-gook, for lack of a better
term. When we copy and paste items at school from the
web image to the document, we do not have a problem. It is
very frustrating because the reason we purchased Office
was to do PowerPoint and do reports with inserted
pictures...we can not effectively do either.

I guess "gobbly-gook" is a start. :)

Are you able to see the image on the screen or does it not print? Have
you tried using Edit/Paste Special and pasting as an image?

If you can provide the exact steps you are using and what you are
seeing in the results it would be helpful. :)

The exact steps we take to transfer an image is 1) we
right click on the image and hit copy 2)we go to the Word
document or PowerPoint and hit paste. 3) either a symbol
comes up, which when opened goes to a screen with
language choices, none of which work to open the image;
or nothing appears. There are some pictures that do
transfer with no problem, but not enough for Office to be
an effective tool for homework needs. We have tried the
Save as option and that does not work either. Thanks for
your continued help.

Chances are you are copying the link to the image - not the image
itself.

Right-click the image and select "Save Picture As" and save it to your
local drive. Then in Word or PowerPoint go to Insert/Picture from File
to insert the image.
