For more knowledgeable suggestions, you may want to post in
word.drawing.graphics, but here are three possibilities:
1. Find the source of the images. This is the very best approach. If someone
else created the documents, ask the creator to supply the images as graphic
files. If you inserted clip art or images from the Web or whatever, track
down the original images.
2. Failing that, you can copy/paste the image into a graphics app (even
Windows Paint or MS Photo Editor will do) and save them in a graphics
format.
3. You can save the document as a Web page, and Word will split out images
as GIFs (clip art) or JPEGs (photos or other continuous tone graphics).
You'll find them in the related subfolder (if you have this option enabled)
with names like image001.gif (you can of course rename them).
