Copying iPhoto 4 pictures to WordX

Mary

I've searched this groups topics on this subject and never found the
right solution my problem.

Hope this is sufficient info:

Mac ibook G4, OS X 10.3.9.
iPhoto 4 4.0.3 (4H2)
Word X for Mac upgrade (originally part of Microsoft Office 98)
1983-2001

I have previously been able to copy and drag pictures from iPhoto4 to
the Picture file and then copy and paste from Preview into Word and
resize as needed. Now it works sometimes, but most of the time not. I
either get the picture on the Word document (Yeah!) or I get the
message "Quicktime and a tiff decompressor are required to see this
picture". I have tried every copying method and format I can think of
and I still get that message. I've had this system as it for two years
and up until yesterday have NEVER had this come up. Have I turned
something on? Turned something off? Next stop is $35 to the Microsoft
people for one on one help. If anyone can offer some suggestions I'd
really appreciate it.. Thanks. Mary

The difference is probably the picture itself. Word is picky about
pictures. It won't accept Tiffs with alpha (transparency) channels and
it does not like CMYK colour space either. Which a TIFF could have.

If you must spend $35, send it to Thorsten Lemke for a registered copy
of GraphicConverter http://www.lemkesoft.de
You can try it for free. It is quite simply the best piece of shareware
for the Macintosh. Slurp your picture into GraphicConverter and turn it
into something that Word will accept, like a JPG with 300 pixels/inch
or fewer. Use GC to make it exactly the size you want and then insert
picture from file onto your Word doc. It is the easiest and safest way
to deal with illustrations in Word.

You should have Quicktime Player on your Mac already. Use software
update to get the latest. There is a fresh one out today. I suspect
Word is lying to you about the real reason it hates your pictures. In
the same circumstances, so would I. Out of embarrassment.

I second the motion. I've been using GraphicConverter for a long time. I
used to use Denaba Canvas on OS9 but GC handles pictures just as good or
better.
