copying large document to floppy problems

In Microsoft Word I have a document that is double-spaced
and over 200 pages long. Which is fine normally but
because it's double-spaced it grew bigger than the
original single spaced document. Now it's 1.47mb and my
floppy diskettes will only copy a folder or file that is
1.44mb.
I'm in a quandry about how to fix this problem. The
document is a manuscript and as such I have to deal with
publishers guidelines and utilize the double-spaced 1"
margins left and right top and bottom and a certain
font. The document also must show the page number at the
bottom of each page.
When I originally created the document it was single
spaced and I had the margins at a lot less than 1" and
now I'm stuck with a document that can't be copied to a
floppy.
If I split the document into 2 separate files named #1
and #2, will I be able to keep the page numbers in
consecutive order or will splitting it change that?
Is there any help you can give me in regards to this
problem?

There is no reason a double-spaced document should create a larger file than
a single-spaced one, especially if you have used styles rather than direct
formatting. There are a number of reasons for excessive file size,
including:

1. Fast Saves: Disable this at on the Save tab of Tools | Options.

2. Preview Picture: Clear the check box on the Summary tab of File |
Properties.

3. Versions (File | Versions): Make sure "Automatically save version on
close" is not turned on.

4. Revisions (Tools | Track Changes):
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen" is turned on.
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present; accept or reject all changes, then turn Track Changes
off.

5. Embedded True Type fonts (Tools | Options | Save)

6. Embedded graphics: When feasible, it is preferable to link the graphics.
