copying Nonadjacent cells

confused

When I try to copy nonadjacent cells I get an error "This command cannot be
used on multiple selections, is the true? I found the following information
when I searched the Inteernet for the answer to this question "NOTE:
Nonadjacent cells cannot be copied simultaneously."

My textbook states that I can copy nonadjacent cells, but the software won't
let me. Any suggestions?

I think they need to be in the same row(s) or column(s), and the same shape,
but they do not have to be adjacent. When pasting they all get bunched up
next to each other
