Copying Office software disks

I normally don't bother to make backup copies of my
software - I've always had a desktop, and my software was
nearby.

But, now I have a laptop. Often, when using Office
features you get prompted to insert one of the program
disks - whether for clipart, templates, or some
confirmation process related to updates.

I don't want to carry the original installation disks with
me, so I tried making backup disks to carry with the
laptop. It took an extraordinarily long time to copy the
retail version disks to my desktop (which has an OEM
installation, btw); and a very extraordinary amount of
time to write the disks.

I'm worried there may be something wrong with the copies;
and I have no idea how to test them. Is there anyway to
confirm that the copies I made are okay?
