Copying .pst files from one computer to another

I'm trying to save my contacts, inbox, drafts, and sent files as
individual .pst files so that I can move them to another computer
runnint Outlook. I seem to be successful in saving the files to a CD,
but when I try to "import" them on the second machine, I get a message
telling me that I don't have permission to the file. What's the fix?

Phil, is the the old Outlook on an XP machine? I can't even find any .pst
files anywhere on mine to try to export to my Vista Windows Mail.

Where did you find them ,if you are exporting from Outlook for XP.

BTW I had Outlook 2003.

Here is the message I got from the guy in the other forum about the .pst files.
Is outlook 2003 installed in the Same Vista machine ?

Windows Mail cannot import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.

You can install Outlook, copy the .pst to the Vista computer, open the .pst
with Outlook, then you can import into Windows Mail.

Or, If you have Outlook installed on an XP computer, import the .pst data
into Outlook Express, copy the .dbx files and .wab file to the Vista
computer, and import into Windows Mail.

Firstly, as posted in all the Outlook groups on a daily basis - DO NOT
IMPORT!
Copy the pst file to your HDD, remove any Read-Only attribute, and then in
Outlook do File-Open-Outlook Data File.
That's how you do it correctly.

And to add, theres no need to create individual pst's, simply copy the main
outlook.pst (with outlook closed)

Why? They're all in a PST (one PST) already. Just copy that PST.
Export/import is never the way to move data from one Outlook instance to
another. Using them guarantees losing data.

You cannot open a PST on a CD because Outlook needs read/write access. Put
the PST on the hard drive, remove the read-only setting, and open it in
Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File.

Yes. Outlook 2003 on an XP machine to Outlook 2007 on a W7 machine.
