I am using Microsoft Excel for mac.
I want to copy a spreadsheet onto a disc but it keeps copying as a read
only file.
how do I copy it correctly so that my accountant may work with it?

You don't mention which versions of Excel and Mac OS you are using. Let's
suppose you're using Mac OS X and this may then very well be a permissions
problem. It's a difficulty with the Unix permissions, you may encounter such
with any files. The "easy" workaround is to "share" the workbook:

From the "Tools" menu, select the "Share Workbook..." option and "allow
changes by more than one user..." this will let you save the workbook with
read/write permissions for all.

Hello-

Hopefully you have the matter resolved by now, but if not here are some
thoughts:

1) Is the acct having trouble or are you unable to open & edit the
copy? If the latter, make sure the original is not still open when you
open the copy.
2) After you quit Excel, select the copy, use Cmd+i and see if the file
is "Locked" in the Get Info window. If so, uncheck the checkbox.
3) Have you tried using the Save As command to save a copy fo the file
directly to the target disk?
4) Is the XL Mac file format one that can be used by whatever version
of XL your accountant has? If your file is in a "newer" version his may
be able to open but not edit the file. Again, Save As may be the
answer... change the File Type in the listbox below the file name
field.

More specifics would be most helpful|:>)
